Maar ondertussen wordt bij ACC hard gewerkt aan een vernieuwde ACC1-squad, na het eerder gemeld vertrek van een kwartet belangrijke spelers.
Diverse benoemingen kunnen al met zekerheid worden gemeld: onze allrounder Anis Raza (28) wordt de nieuwe aanvoerder (congrats!). First Class-cricketer, Brady Barends (31), eveneens allrounder, maar vooral een snelle bowler, keert terug uit Zuid-Afrika als overseas professional player. En een ‘oud’ gezicht, ECB Level 3-coach Taku Kusano (31 jaar) keert ook terug naar ACC van de Rahul Dravid Cricket Academy (en daarvoor VVS Laxman Cricket Academy). De sympathieke en kundige Zimbabwean, die inmiddels in Amsterdam is gearriveerd, is benoemd tot niet spelend Hoofd Coach van de club. Congrats and welcome back Taku!
Ten slotte is er de benoeming van cricketveteraan Mark Mulready tot Hoofd Technische Zaken. Ook hier is een felicitatie zeker op zijn plaats, namens de club. Ernst-Pieter Knüpfer, wie anders, is Team Manager van ACC1. Naar een -liefst vaste scorer- wordt nog steeds dringend gezocht. Zeg het voort!
De nieuwe rol van Mark -vader van ACC1’s jonge wicket keeper Jamie Mulready- heeft gevolgen voor ACC2. ‘’Het betekent minder spelen, meer kijken.’’ Mark leidt het selectieteam dat de indeling van spelers van ACC1 en ACC2 bepaalt. En waarin Taku en Anis ook zitting nemen.
Mark Mulready en EP verklaren eensgezind en duidelijk wat de doelstelling is voor ACC1 voor het komende cricketseizoen. Waarin, naar verwachting, nogal wat Topklasse clubs zich (verder) hebben versterkt met buitenlandse spelers met dank aan de nieuw opgelegde regels. ‘’Wij willen natuurlijk, ondanks het spelersverlies, in de Topklasse blijven. En al helemaal omdat ACC volgend jaar 100 jaar bestaat.’’
Dat is overduidelijk geen sincecure en zal moeten bewerkstelligd met een aantal nieuwe jonge spelers die al lid zijn, en die nu meer kansen krijgen na het ‘Zulfiqar-tijdperk’ en nieuwe leden. Maar de hoop is ook dat er bij de club nog een paar getalenteerde buitenlanders zullen neerstrijken, waarbij primair naar de battingskills zal worden gekeken. Volgens Mark Mulready krijgen we waarschijnlijk al de beschikking over heel wat spinbowlers...
Vorig jaar had ACC twee overseas players. De tweede, de eveneens Zuid-Afrikaanse Jean Marais (wk/batsman), moest voor het eind van het seizoen vertrekken vanwege het aflopen van zijn toeristenvisum. Waarna ACC1, toeval of niet, achter elkaar vier wedstrijden verloor. Nadat ons jonge team daarvoor steeds (heel) hoog op de ranglijst had gestaan. Marais keert niet terug, nu Jamie de vaste wicketkeeper is geworden. EP kan niet veel meer zeggen dan dat het streven is dat dit hiaat niet opnieuw een rol zou moeten spelen aan het seizoenseinde, maar dat tegelijkertijd ook de start naar behoren moet zijn.
ACC heeft de afgelopen periode gelukkig ook een aantal nieuwe, in Nederland woonachtige cricketers kunnen begroeten als lid. Mark Mulready, die de afgelopen zes weken trainingsessies leidde in het Amsterdamse Reade (zie bijgaand enkele van zijn foto's), is positief over de prestaties van spelers. ‘’We moesten stoppen deze vanwege de Corona-toestanden, maar ik hoop dat we over enkele weken vier buiten kunnen gaan trainen, bij ACC.’’ Als de coronatoestanden hopelijk veel minder en liefst voorbij zijn.
Hij zegt te mikken op een flinke squad van rond 20 spelers, ‘’zodat er, in tegenstelling, tot vorig seizoen, sprake is van competitie om in ACC1 te komen.’’ Hij wil ook het in de sterke Overgangsklasse A spelende ACC2 proberen te versterken, zodat daar de overwegend jonge spelers klaar worden gestoomd om te zijner tijd door te kunnen groeien. Maar Mark laat zich niet verleiden tot uitspraken over wie van de tot nog toe acht nieuwe leden zeker danwel hoogst waarschijnlijk in de basis van het Eerste komen te zitten. ‘’Daarvoor is het nog te vroeg,’’ zegt hij. ''Maar we werken allemaal hard om een fit, goed gebalanceerd en competitief team te bouwen.''
Dat zal zeker ook de van Bloemendaal overgekomen batsman Ram Kumar (voornamen) Ramesh Babu (27) zijn, die vorig seizoen Hoofdklasse Speler van het Jaar was met bijna 600 runs en 28 wickets. En nu graag zijn stempel wil drukken in de Topklasse.
De namen van de andere nieuwkomers: Kiran Hosur (ex-Excelsior), Sahil Kothari (student uit Ildia), Antony Edlibert (voornamen) Alangara Napoleon (ex-Bloemendaal), de Engelsen Jack McClean en Charles McInerney en Quincy Brouwer (ex Ajax Leiden).
En dan, last but not least, moeten we natuurlijk niet vergeten de selectiespelers van vorig jaar te noemen die weer gaan strijden met de witte ballen en tussen de zwarte screens. Te weten Aryan Kumar, Devanshu Arya, Cris Knoll, Areeb Shoaib Jamie Mulready, Ammar Zaidi, Beau te Boekhorst, Shreyes Potdar, Mees van Vliet en uiteraard Anis Raza, de nieuwe captain.

New faces in a round ACC1 squad announced
