[by Nagesh Danturti] Last Sunday ACC cricket registered a well-fought and a memorable win over the Hilversum team by 10 runs. This win will be remembered for a lot of reasons, the key fact being the match was played under the watchful eyes of a KNCB umpire with live video streaming for friends and family. Under the looming threat of rain, damp pitch and soaking outfield ACC3 decided to bat first. Bobby and Gurlabh put on a careful 30-run opening partnership. There was a collapse thereafter as ACC3 lost 6 wickets for 62 runs on board. Nagesh and Tamil then shared a quick 40 run partnership that gave us some hope. Down the line, Mudi and Jovan provided a last moment boost to the score with some fine boundary hitting and making sure that we made the best use of the allowed 39 overs (due to rain interruptions). A score of 163 in 39 overs was a modest and under-par for Hilversum that had earlier chased over 200 easily. Hilvesum started with a good 55 run partnership despite a tight spell by Manan. However, after a change in bowling Jovan picked up a key wicket of their opening batsman. Soon after a direct throw run out from a fired-up Arsalan brought the energy back into ACC. Hilversum was on back-foot and ACC took charge restricting the runs and choking the opposition. Wickets kept falling and Hilversum were 126 for 9 after 32 overs. With 7 overs to go Hilversum needed only 38 runs. The last pair of Hilversum carefully attacked and reduced the margin to just 11 runs. However, skipper Mudi bowling the 36th over ensured victory off the last ball when he trapped the last batsman lbw plumb in front of the wicket as he tried to play across. This was a game where the KNCB umpire’s presence was highly felt and massively required as several key decisions could’ve swung the game either way. At the end of the day, it was a highly entertaining game that ended in a fair and a hard-fought victory by ACC3. The first ACC3 victory that’s watched live and in presence of an on-field KNCB umpire.
